Default Mo/E Scar Eater Farm (1 min 20, Handles all spawns, *video*)

Hi guys!

Some of you might know me for the guide I wrote a couple months ago. I left GW before the release of Factions and recently came back. I had to adapt to the new skills/game changes, but now I think I'm ready to post another guide

A few weeks ago, Ricebox posted a guide for Scar Eater using a 13 health build (link). It sure is/was good, but required a no-Gaki spawn, which is somewhat uncommon. I decided to improve this, and I feel I have done so enough to call it my build. Props to whoever started using Sliver armor to solo as well

Before I begin with the gear/attribs/skills, I must say this is pretty hard to do and will take a lot of practice, but it is also very fast. Okay, enough talk, let's get going.

Attributes
  • Earth Magic: 10+2 = 12
  • Healing Prayers: 6+3 = 9
  • Protection Prayers: 8+3 = 11
  • Divine Favor: 8+3+1 = 12

Skills
  • Protective Spirit
  • Healing Breeze
  • Spirit Bond
  • Spellbreaker {E}
  • Sliver Armor
  • Glyph of Elemental Power
  • Mending
  • Balthazar's Spirit

Gear

Weapon: 20% Enchanting one-handed weapon (Totem Axe works good)
Offhand: -50 Health Grim Cesta
You will *NEED* a 15 armor set, which you can get from Shing Jae Monastery or Ascalon. Take the set with +energy, you do not want +health or +armor bonuses on your armor.

The Run

Head outside Vasburg Armory to Eternal Grove (explorable), and cast Mending and Balthazar's Spirit on yourself (duh). Move forward until you spot the first group. Now, you have to know what is dangerous and what isn't. A Pain Hungry Gaki will cast Bloodsong which drains about 17 health per hit, while a Skill Hungry Gaki will cast Disenchantment, which removes one enchantment from you everytime you are struck by it. As soon as you trigger the Gakis's aggro, they will start spamming their spirits exactly where they are now, and follow you after they've casted everything. What you want to do is, if you spot a Gaki, make sure you aggro him and his group in a location where the spirits won't be in range to hit you later on. Here's a radar scan of your trajectory:

Gakis can spawn in groups 1 and 2 (one per group at most). They will never spawn in group 3. As you can see, if you aggro group 1 (which, let's pretend, contains a Gaki) at the location it is now on the radar, you will get struck by the spirit's attacks while going for group 3, after you've aggroed group 2. What you want to do is let the first group move in more (possibly down or halfway down the small hill), before aggroing:

On this scan, the white contour is where the first group is now, and the orange contour is approximately where you want it to be, prior to aggroing. When it's there, you're pretty much safe, as it (the Gaki's dangerous spirit!!) should be far enough to hit you. Even if you took a bloodsong hit you're fine, however Disenchantment could kill you. But hey, if you've done what I told you, everything will be fine =)

After you aggroed the first group, move on to the second one. Once both groups are running after you, you want PS (duh) and Spirit Bond up at all times now. Before aggroing the third group, recast your enchantments, and keep Healing Breeze up. Now, aggro the third group and go hug Scar Eater. Recast your three enchantments and from now on, make sure none of them goes down (i.e.: overcast everything). Cast Glyph of Elemental Power, followed with Sliver Armor. With three groups on you, 12 Earth Magic and the Glyph, he will die from one round of Sliver Armor every time. Keep yourself healed with the Divine Favor bonus by recasting your enchantments (PS/Breeze/SBond) over and over. As soon as Scar Eater dies, you gain a morale boost (you're now at 65 health, if I'm correct). In order to give you time to pick up your items, cast Sliver Armor, and keep overcasting your enchantments. Sliver Armor will make you block about 45% of attacks, giving you way enough time to pick up anything you want. When you're done, /resign or map travel

If you happened to die without being able to pick up your drops (which should only happen in a lag spike, because usually you should be fine), just switch armor pieces to get 13 or 33 health (13 = switch to -20 offhand, 33 = remove offhand), and go get your drops.

If Onis happen to spawn, make sure you cast Spellbreaker as soon as you see them pop up. Don't worry, they'll just help you kill Scar Eater faster The only time this build won't work is when Onis spawn early in your aggro run (for example: close to group 1 and 2), but this happens very rarely (happened twice in about 30 runs).

Make sure you never hit anything with your weapon because if you happen to strike a target with Tainted Flesh on, you'll get diseased (-4 pips of regen), which is too much to handle for you with 9 Healing Prayers.

I wish you all good luck with Scar Eater farming! I recorded myself doing this, hope you'll enjoy the video as well!

Awesome vid, gotta try that one... and I laughed my a** off at your "screen filler". You're right, that song does rock. Give title/artist info! Tried to figure it out, but it sounds like it's in another language.

...Screen filler FTW. =D

nice guide, good to see new ways of doing things. I still doubt this would cope with oni's casting shadow shroud. But if they don't spawn it seems quite efficient.

Tip for anyone using a 13hp build: Agro any gaki groups at their patrol point furthest from scar eater so their spirits spawn out of range then go do your thing. Also before u suicide scout your route to scar eater and if there's oni either rezone or go the back way if the oni's aren't too close to him.

p.s. Scar Eater and gakis get my vote for ugliest creature in guildwars. They're like an overweight old man with a fake tan wearing a thong bikini with the head of a goat.

Hmm Spell Breaker as elite might work good vs Barbs, but i personally prefer Glyph of Renewel [E] qich allows you to keep sliver armor up way more ^^.
[if used in teh right manner]

Well, if you read the post, Spellbreaker is for Onis and not Barbs, and one round of sliver armor with glyph of elemental power kills Scar Eater every time, I have no idea why you would want to renew it.

Please read before posting -.-

the build i use is the same as yours but i cahnge a few things

Skills

* Protective Spirit
* Healing Breeze
* blessed aure (or something like that)
* mark of Prot {E}
* Sliver Armor
* Glyph of Elemental Power
* Mending
* Balthazar's Spirit

basically same build and i cast MoP if i see ni pop up which is almost never for me :P , im just lucky i guess) the strategy is that same but you cast glhpy then armor then MoP.

Very nice build, but one thing for people like me running out of inventory space because of armor and equipment: you don't actually need the +15 armor set.

Spirit bond triggers even using a standard 60AL 55 set (I don't remember the exact reasoning anymore, but I'm sure someone can clarify), which is what I use on the runs.

Try it with a A/E and Shadow Form
Takes 1min from Vasburg exit to the pick up, no need go for 13HP.

Drawback : you farm the boss plus some of the other mobs, but not all of them (in fact you've got 48 secs of invulnerability).

Except this thread is about 55hp and not 13hp, and about monk not assassin. Thanks for input tho

Default Props to Desire

Desire is right. No offense, but the mo/e has been done for a while now. The sin is much faster and easier than the monk 55 build.

Here is a link to a sin build doing it in less than 1 minute. And you can recall out to safety.

Except not everyone has sins and this thread is for monks, hence the title which you obviously have a hard time reading. I'll let you know if I plan to change the title. Thanks for the input tho

No one is knocking your build even though it is nothing new. You did a good job on it. But just as others comment on better skills, attributes, or secondaries, he was just commenting on the fact that an assasin can farm scar eater as well and even better. And for those people out there like myself that have a assasin and a monk, its worth the knowledge to have it. So even though you post a Mo/E build it can be helpful to other characters. With that in mind, someone that has a Ele can have a monk secondary or a assasin secondary and farm Scar Eater.

Don't take it so hard. We are all friends here.
